employee creation from ABAP

Dear all,

I'm looking for a way of how to create employee from ABAP.

I tried several BAPIs like BAPI_PERSDATA_CREATE however all of these BAPIs are having import parameter PERNR (Personnel number).

I assume that while creating new employee this number should be assigned automatically which however is not the case.

Can you share some thoughts what are possible way of how to create it? Preferable what BAPI really does that and how to call it.
